ZEAL + Aegir Boardworks

ZEAL Sales Rep, AJ Gasuk, checked in with us on an awesome event he recently had the chance to be a part of at Aegir Boardworks in Brooklyn, New York. Check it out:

First of all, a little bit about Aegir Boardworks:
Aegir Boardworks opened in 2011 in the Dumbo section of Brooklyn, NY right on the East River between the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges. They have not been around long but are fast becoming a staple in the hood, frequented by celebrities from Robin Williams (whom has been spotted numerous times out in his black Aegir Boardworks logo t-shirt), to Anne Hathaway, to Jim Carrey and more. Owners Pete and Shaun are devoted to their board sports. You can always count on shots from the park from Shaun in the winter and from the beach in Rockaway in the summer. They make sure they get in the water whenever there are waves, and Pete has a sweet new scar on his wrist from throwing down nasty skate moves on Water street (It’s a Cobblestone Street!). We can’t wait till we can see him fulfill his dream of surfing the East River!!!

ZEAL Reception & Dumbo Comedy Tour
The night started out with a ZEAL reception in the shop where we had product to try, beer and wine to help you buy, and all the info and swag you could ever want! We had 60+ people in the shop at the height, all catching up with friends, checking out the shop, and finding their ZEAL!

At 8:30 I went over to the bookstore across the street that was having a book signing and talked to the owner. He said the event was for a guy that just released a book of photos. These photos were of Swedish influenced remakes of classic Punk Rock concert posters. (Awesome…..?) Anyway, they were out of beer and we weren’t, so we added to the crowd and got on with the show.

We had the pleasure of hosting The Dumbo Comedy Tour at our event. The Dumbo Comedy Tour is a group of local comedians that put on a show in a different business or venue every month. There were eight comedians this night and they were as funny as they were diverse. People continued to come and go throughout the show and good times and good laughs were had by all!

We met some amazing people at the event from photographers to people that are fully dialed in on the local surf scene. One person that stuck out was Mike Kololyan, Founder/CEO/head surf instructor of Locals Surf School in Rockaway. We got time to talk and we ended up bringing him on to the ZEAL Athlete Team! Stay tuned for his bio and some killer ZEAL/Locals events this summer!

All in all, another incredible night was had in Brooklyn!

PRESS RELEASE: ZEAL Optics Becomes Official Eyewear Partner for King of Wake Series

April 02, 2013 – Boulder, CO – ZEAL Optics announced today they are now the official eyewear sponsor of the 2013 King of Wake tour, the world’s elite wakeboarding series. ZEAL will be present at each of this season’s eight King of Wake tour stops. Partnering with the tour aligns ZEAL alongside the top wakeboarding athletes in the world, including ZEAL’s very own Brian Grubb. The entire series will be featured nationally on NBC Sports. The Chase for the Crown, which begins in Orlando this month, is recognized as the prestigious wakeboarding tour of the summer.

Along with the new partnership, the ZEAL events team will be traveling to each stop to support the series with the ZEAL’s EXPLORER Trailer, which contains the full line of lifestyle, active and performance sunglasses by ZEAL. ZEAL polarized sunglasses offer unparalleled protection and prevention from UVA, B, and C, as well as being able to identify and block a negative light range called High Energy Visible (HEV) light.

Look for the ZEAL’s EXPLORER Trailer to be present at all King of Wake events, where you can check out ZEAL sunglasses, including ZEAL’s new e-llume lens, the first plant based lens in the world.

Summer in Micronesia!

While we at ZEAL rarely find ourselves getting sick of Winter, our friends Amy & Richard Kotch do seem to be living it up during Summer in Micronesia! Check out some photos they sent over that are sure to warm up even the coldest of days!
